944th FW’s annual CFC drive Published Nov. 6, 2011 944th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Defense Department's Combined Federal Campaign. The 944th Fighter Wing's campaign kicks off here Nov. 5, offering federal civilians and military members the opportunity to contribute to more than 4,000 pre-screened charitable organizations. 944th Fighter Wing Commander Colonel Jose Monteagudo launched the wing's annual CFC drive. "The 944th Fighter Wing is known for their generosity and their willingness to give. I know that this year it may be a little harder to contribute but it is actually an even more vital to contribute now more than ever because so many people are in need," Col Monteagudo said. The CFC will run until November 18th. The CFC was established in 1961 and is the largest workplace charity campaign in the country. CFC organizations provide support such as feed families who have lost their homes, help wounded service members and their families, foster education in underprivileged areas and provide emergency supplies to disaster victims. CFC representatives will make contact with 100 percent of their unit members to educate them on the CFC program and the various charitable organizations that participate. "Our goal this year is to raise $34K. If everyone will consider contributing to the charity or charities of their choice, we can exceed this goal," said 944th Fighter Wing CFC project officer, Staff Sgt. Denise Willhite. Last year's national CFC campaign raised more than $281.5 million and of those pledges $4,825 was from 944th Fighter Wing. The campaign has garnered more than $6 billion in contributions since its inception in 1961.
