The 944th Communications Flight traveled to the east coast in May to attend indispensable training sponsored by the 514th Communications Squadron at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.

Deploying 26 members from various communications skill sets of the 944th CF from May 18 to 29 was necessary to obtain fundamental training. The plan to accomplish the requirement was to attend training taught by instructors from both the 514th CS and the 5th Combat Communication Support Squadron from Robins AFB, Ga.

Classes focused mostly on the Theater Deployable Communications Suite and provided both a broad overview and in-depth knowledge concerning the setup, configuration and operation of this equipment. Training was also provided on the Initial Communications Access Package.

"All training was relevant to the UTCs of the 944th Communications Flight and also filled upgrade training squares for flight personnel," said Chief Master Sgt. Steve Plante, 944th CF superintendent.

The unit also received supplemental training incorporating safety, communications security, security and anti-terrorism.

"We are grateful to all the folks at the 514th CS, some of whom were our classmates, for their wonderful welcome, support, flexibility and, most of all, camaraderie," Chief Plante said. "Being able to deploy and get this type of training, which we cannot provide at home station, is essential to our mission success."
