The 944th Fighter Wing has official entered the social networking scene Oct. 20 with the launch of a fan page on Facebook.

The 944th FW Public Affairs Office maintains the business page and plans to update "fans" with news links, photos, and events.

"Our goal is to engage a global audience with updates on what the Air Force Reserve and the 944th Fighter Wing is doing both here at home and deployed," said Tech. Sgt. Susan Stout, 944th FW Public Affairs specialist. "

The 944th FW will use their Facebook page to drive traffic toward its official public Web site, www.944fw.afrc.af.mil.

"This gives us a more flexible way to present our story," Sergeant Stout said. "It's a less formal venue and we can post content there that may not be a good fit for our public Web site."

Currently there are more than 200 million users signed onto the social networking site.

"Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected," according to the company's Web site. "Millions of people use Facebook everyday to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet."

The wing's site can be found by visiting www.facebook.com/ and searching for "944th Fighter Wing (U.S. Air Force Reserve.)"
