New MSG commander for 944th Published Dec. 8, 2010 By SSgt Steve Razo 944th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The 944th Mission Support Group welcomed their new commander, Col. Anne B. Gunter, to the wing here Dec. 4. Col. Michael G. Popovich, 944th Fighter Wing Commander presided over the assumption of command ceremony that included each of the four support group squadrons in military formation. Colonel Gunter is not a stranger to the U.S. Air Force Reserve 944th Fighter Wing. Prior to her departure from the wing in 2008, she was the Mission Support Flight commander responsible for personnel, Airman and family readiness, and wing training. "I have so many fond memories when I was here previously and I'm thrilled to be back with the members of the 944th Fighter Wing," Colonel Gunter said. Colonel Gunter comes to the wing from Headquarters, Fourth Air Force at March Air Reserve Base, Calif. She was most recently the numbered Air Force Inspector General and was also their Deputy A1, Manpower, Personnel and Services since May 2008. In addition to her traditional reservist role at the fighter wing, she is a civil service member at the Mesa Research Site with the Warfighter Readiness Research Division of the Air Force Research Laboratory. She works with scientists, engineers and support personnel at the former Williams Air Force Base. Looking ahead to her next few months with her new command, she said, "The caliber and talent of our support group members is phenomenal. They have been involved in operations across the globe and will continue to provide that world-class support." The 944th Mission Support Group trains and deploys military and civilians in support of any Department of Defense mission and includes the civil engineer, force support, logistics readiness, and security forces squadrons within the fighter wing. "We have some exciting challenges ahead and I look forward to sharing those with the fine men and women of the 944th Mission Support Group," Colonel Gunter said.
